Apprenticeships Overview

Apprenticeships are an effective way to develop your existing or new workforce, combining group training sessions with on-the-job assessment. Delivered either in-house or through our regional Apprenticeship Training hubs, Mitre can deliver:

Level 2 Coach Education / Community Coaching

This new Community Activator (coaching) apprenticeship (formally called the Activity Leadership Apprenticeship) is popular with Community Trusts and Coaching organisations. The programme helps individuals learn how to lead and coach fun, inclusive and engaging activities that help people of all ages to change their behaviour, adopt and maintain a physically active lifestyle. Programme content include Coach Development, Understanding the Benefits of Physical Activity, Behaviour Change, Barrier to Participation, How to Look after your Community, Safeguarding and Legislation. This programme also includes relevant NGB coaching qualifications to ensure individuals develop into a well rounded coach.

Level 3 Supporting PE & School Sport

This apprenticeship enables individuals to gain an in-depth understanding of the primary school Physical Education national curriculum and the delivery of sport within this. This apprenticeship is recognised and endorsed by the Association for Physical Education (AfPE) and is ideal for individuals working or aspiring to work in PE & School Sport e.g. coaches or teachers who require specialist PE skills and knowledge. Programme content includes How to Plan, Deliver and Review PE & School Sport programmes, Understanding the PE Curriculum, The Mentoring Role, Understanding Child Development, Supporting Gifted and Talented Pupils, Safeguarding and the Wellbeing of Children.

Level 3 Teaching Assistant

This apprenticeship is suitable for individuals working in primary, secondary and special education across all age ranges. The primary role of the teaching assistant is to support the class teacher to enhance pupils' learning either in groups or individually, ensuring pupils understand the work set, know their learning objectives and stay on task in order to make progress. Topics within the apprenticeship include Understanding how Pupils Learn and Develop, Working with Teachers to Understand and Support Assessment for Learning, Understand the Curriculum, Keeping Children Safe, Developing Strategies for Support, Communication, Teamwork, Problem Solving and Motivating Pupils and Adding Value to Education. This Apprenticeship ensures full competency as a Teaching Assistant and a foundation to progress into Higher Level Teaching Assistant and Teaching roles. 

L3 Community Sports and Health Officer

This new Apprenticeship is a great programme for new and existing staff within the community sector. Individuals will learn how to empower individuals from inactive and heard to reach populations and initiate behaviour change in local residents via sport and physical activity. The programme covers a broad range of topics, including Empowering People, Initiating Behaviour Change, Understanding Social Barriers and Health Inequalities, Using Sport to Prevent and Minimise Anti-Social Behaviour and How to Work with National Governing Bodies and Sports Development Agencies. 

Level 3 Learning Mentor

This apprenticeship is the first formal recognition of the mentoring role. Learning Mentors support learners of all ages and all levels to develop within a new work role, for example new recruits ranging from young entrants to new CEOs. Learning Mentors can be seen as a 'dual professional'l having both up to date knowledge and skills in their specialist vocational or subject area together with the generic skills necessary to support learners. Learning Mentors support the development of learners' knowledge, skills and behaviours throughout their programme, particularly in applying theoretical learning to practical work environments. Topics within this Apprenticeship include Advice and Guidance for Learners, Communicating and Collaborating Effectively, Working with Colleagues to Plan and Implement Structured and Meaningful Learning, Liaising with Assessors and Coaches to Facilitate Assessment, Safeguarding, Compliance with Quality Assurance Requirements and Recognising Issues Relevant to Learners' Progress and Wellbeing. This Apprenticeship includes the mandatory completion of Level 1 Safeguarding as well as the option to complete the L3 Award in Education and Training.

L3 Team Leading and L5 Management

These apprenticeships are suitable for first line managers and senior management teams. They develop invaluable leadership and management skills and the underpinning knowledge and understanding of topics such as Performance Management, Change Management, Team Leadership, Operational Processes, Financial Principles, Effective Communication and Conflict Management.

As an approved provider on the Governments Register of Apprenticeship Training Providers, we are able to support both Levy and Non-Levy paying employers to identify and implement effective apprenticeship workforce development programmes.
