PE & School Sport

Learners will complete the 1st4Sport Level 3 NVQ Diploma in Supporting the Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport which has been developed in partnership with the Association for Physical Education (afPE).

Delivery of Physical Education and School Sport

The qualification will develop the learner’s knowledge and skills in order to allow them to support the delivery of physical education and school sport (PESS) programmes in a school sport environment. While it is delivered through the medium of PESS, the skills may be used by learners aspiring to work in other sporting roles, such as coaching.

This qualification is ideal for those already working, or aspiring to work, in a physical education and school sport setting.

Mitre are currently delivering L3 PESS in our new Sport Apprenticeship Academy Hubs which is formed of learners from QPR in the Community Trust, London Broncos Rugby Club and The Posh Foundation (Peterborough United FC).  Other sports apprenticeships are currently being delivered at Derby County Community Trust, Tottenham Hotspur Foundation, AFC Bournemouth Community Sports Trust and The Albion Foundation (West Bromwich Albion FC).

Mitre have recently completed (March 2018) a one-year L3 PESS programme in the West Midlands for a charity, Fit4Schools who supply staff to the surrounding area.  The programme was very successful, and all 5 learners achieved.  As a result of this programme Mitre was granted Direct Claims status with 1st4Sport.

We have achieved direct claims for all of our sports apprenticeships due to the high standard of our delivery and the rigour of our assessment.  For sports qualifications, we work with Pearson Edexcel, City and Guilds and 1st4Sport.

Delivery staff are teacher and assessor qualified and have a background in teaching PE and/or sports coaching

As with all of our sport apprenticeships the qualification will be delivered through a combination of classroom workshops and practical sessions. Learners will also have access to our bespoke online portal to support them with distance learning.

The qualification will be further enhanced through guest speakers and a residential at an outdoor education centre.

Next steps for Learners/Students: As a training provider we do not recruit apprentices; we are responsible for teaching and assessing once employment has been found within an organisation. National Apprenticeship Vacancies can be found at GOV.UK. Check out our social media pages to see Mitre's current collaborations with professional clubs looking for learners.
