Mitre Group have been working with The Mariners for the past 3 seasons to deliver Spectator Safety, Customer Service and Equality and Diversity training to all match-day stewards.
CASE IN POINT: Grimsby Town FC
Over the past three years, Mitre and Grimsby Town Football Club have supported over 50 stewards achieve more than 100 accredited qualifications in topics ranging from customer service and spectator safety, to equality and diversity.
The successful steward training programme continues to go from strength to strength as new courses are added to the club’s education portfolio. Mitre has recently introduced further programmes to the club that will allow stewards to gain new skills in areas such as management and team leadership as well as build on core subjects including maths, English and ICT.
These programmes are designed to ensure stewards have the necessary skills to maintain a safe stadium for fans on match days, while also focusing on skills to support the stewards’ career development both within and outside the club.

Working with the experienced team from Mitre we’ve built courses that reflect the needs of our stewards and local community. The trainers have taken the time to get to know the club inside out and build long-lasting relationships so we’re able to open up new opportunities for every member of the team.”
To date, Mitre have delivered over 150 qualifications for the Club to develop skills and ensure staff meet regulatory requirements. Topics of training and assessment include conflict management, crowd control, dealing with accidents and emergencies, delivering excellent customer service and understanding equality and diversity legislation and policy.
