What apprenticeships are available?
At the time of writing this there are 586 Apprenticeship Standards from Level 2 to 8, and a further 98 in development, across 15 different sectors. We can advise you which will suit your apprentice role best.
How much will an apprenticeship cost?
Employers can fund 95-100% of the apprenticeship training cost via their Digital Apprenticeship Service account. However, an employer is responsible for the cost of any other mandatory workplace training not associated with the apprenticeship criteria and the wages of the apprentice. Who can complete and apprenticeship?
Apprenticeships can be completed by anyone aged 16 or over, whether they are a new or current employee, if they do not already have an equivalent or higher-level qualification or experience in the same subject area.
How long is an apprenticeship?
All apprentices must be employed for a minimum duration of 53 weeks to allow for the training and assessment period to be completed. However, the length of an apprenticeship can range from 13 months to 6 years depending on the level of apprenticeship being completed.
You can hire someone new or upskill an existing employee.
What is the Levy?
The levy is paid into monthly by large employers with a pay bill of over £3 million (they pay 0.5% of their total annual pay bill). It can then be used to pay for the training costs associated with hiring an apprentice. Although, funds that have been paid in will disappear after 24 months.
Can businesses who don't pay into the Levy still access it?
Yes! The levy is there to fund apprenticeship training for all employers. Smaller employers, those with a total annual pay bill of less than £3million, pay a 5% contribution to the cost of the training of their apprentice and the Government pays the rest. Although, this cost can be covered by a levy transfer.
What is a Levy transfer?
Levy paying employers can transfer up to 25% of their unused funds to another employer through their Apprenticeship Service Account. If the amount transferred covers the full cost of the apprentice’s training, then the receiving employer will not have to pay the 5% contribution.
