The Mitre Outdoor Adventure Learning Event

On Monday October 25th and Tuesday October 26th we welcomed 51 of our apprentices to Mitre's new home at Mount Cook Adventure Centre for two days of Adventure fun and learning - What a week!

Our Curriculum Manager Lesley put together a great programme to help aid all the apprentices with their learning and development. This involved lots of engaging, mind boggling, team building and physical activities from the zipline and high ropes to flat pack frenzy, bomb disposal and minefield. Every task designed to teach the apprentices key skills they can take back to their workplace and help them in the apprenticeship.

The programme has an intense itinerary to help the apprentices learn and grow with an aim to teach the apprentices the behaviours needed for their apprenticeship standard, all of which are incredibly important as well as skills they need to help them with activities and tasks in the workplace.

Team work, collaboration, getting out of your comfort zone, leadership and knowing specialist areas are just some of the things being learnt, but also gaining experience from working with other Apprentices across a variety of programmes. The event is designed to bring the Apprentices out of their shell and give them confidence in their relevant field, taking that experience back to the their workplace to help directly improve them in their role.

"Absolutely amazing! The team building event especially bought me out of my shell, and introduced me to a world of new skills." - Caitlin, Blue Stream Academy
Just want to say a huge thank you - really enjoyed it and got a lot out of the experience. Challenging in the right amounts and didn't feel pressured to do anything - James, Dorset Cricket

To showcase just how valuable events like this can be in staff development, we invited along some employers to see the impact first hand.

"I would definitely encourage more employers to get more involved in the apprenticeship scheme and get more involved with events like this" - Gavin, Queens Park Rangers
"It has really pushed them out of their comfort zone!" - Pete, Middlesex Cricket Club

Our learners have been very kind in their feedback on the event too!

"It was a great two days. Just wished it was three!" - Saif, QPR
"Really enjoyed the 2 days felt like I knew my team for longer so it was a great way to meet new people as well as working as a team !" - Catherine, Amber Valley School Sports Partnership
"Through the activities I have learnt a skill set and how clubs develop and structure their coaching pathways. Thank you again for arranging such a brilliant programme" - Maddi, AFC Wimbledon Foundation

At Mitre, we're proud of the quality of our delivery, and as a team are driven by a passion for quality education. This event is just one of the commitments we make to each and every Apprentice on our programmes to developing their skills, and enhancing their careers. Overall, we were delighted to hear the thoughts of both our Apprentices and their employers and we look forward to the event again next year!
